First, we’d like to start with a thank you. We truly appreciate your time and expertise and knowledge of photography.
Each judge will be issued an ID and a password to use to log onto the member portion of our website (www.racinecameraclub.com). The member portion of the site is where our competition committee can create new competitions, our members can submit images for the competitions and then you, as our judges, can review, judge and critique those images.
The purpose of this document is to provide a set of instructions for the on-line judging program that you will be using to judge one of our competitions. We really appreciate the time and effort you put into this along with your skills and talent that you share with us.
The Online Judging Process
1) Logon to Our Web Server
Using any browser, go to www.racinecameraclub.com. In the upper right hand side, just under the banner image, you will see an option labeled “members”. Click on that option. You will be presented with a login screen where you need to enter the userid and password that you were provided, and then click the submit button. Once you are logged in, you will notice that there is now a new option list that will show on the left side of the page. One of those options is “Judging”. Click that option.
Please note that your userid and password are both case-sensitive. Feel free to change your password using the “Change My password” option in the left hand side of the page.
2) Select A Competition
The list that comes up will show every active competition for the club, so the list will change over time. To the right of each competition, there are several functions you can perform.
We have a sample competition on the site that you can use for practice. The title is “Test Competition for Judges’ Practice”. Feel free to go into this competition at any time to try out the judging process described in this document.
Each of the various options can only be used during certain periods of time in the life of a competition, so the active options will change. Just to the left of the list of functions is a list of the ids of the judges for that competition, along with an indicator of how complete you are in your judging. “[NS]” stands for “Not Started”, which means that you have not even clicked on the “Start Judging Images” function. Once you have started looking at the images, it will change to a percentage complete, which is calculated based on the number of required fields they have filled in for the images in the competition.
To begin the process for a competition, click on one of the options to the right side of that competition. If you are not set up as a judge for a competition, none of the functions will be enabled.
3) Review the Images Submitted For The Competition
You may want to begin by reviewing the images for a competition. There is a function “Review images” that will present thumbnails of all of the images, along with their titles on a single page. It lets you do a simple review of the images to get familiar with them.
4) Score The Images
When you select the function “start judging images” (of “continue judging images” after you have started the process), you will be presented with a large thumbnail of each image along with selections for your scoring and a text box for your comments. As you go from image to image using the next/previous or first/last selections, any information you enter is saved automatically (but only when you go tot he Next or Previous image). There is a set of up to seven small thumbnails across the bottom of page showing you the current image (the one in the center) and the next two and previous two.
You can click on the large thumbnail of an image to open the full sized version of the image in a separate tab in our browser. This will give you a better and more detailed view of the image, while preserving your location in the images..
5) Review Your Scoring
When you are complete, or even before you are complete, you can select the function to review your scoring. This will present a page with all of the images, like the review images page, along with any scoring and comments that you have entered for the images. It’s a quick to review all of your scores to verify that everything is entered as you wanted.
6) Submit Your Results
Once you have completed our scoring and commenting, you can submit your scores to the competition committee by clicking on the “submit scores” function on the right hand side of the competition.
If you need to, you can also resubmit your scores later. Anytime up until the judging deadline, you can go back into the competition and modify any of your scores or comments, Just click on the same function and your current scores will replace those that you previously submitted. Once you are done making any changes, click the “submit scores” button again.
Your Suggestions and Reports of Any Errors
If you run across any errors while you are using the system, please let us know. Please send an email with a description of any issues you encounter to tleih@wi.rr.com. We will work to get them resolved as quickly as possible.
Any suggestions that you might have to help improve the on-line system or anything in the entire judging process would also be greatly appreciated. Please send your ideas to the competition committee member that recruited you as a judge.
